East Kilbride teams competed in the final league games of the West Of Scotland Junior League with three teams on the day having the possibility of playing in the finals.

In 2nd division two East Kilbride teams played in their final league match against one another for a place in the division final.
EK2 (Hong Tai Chan,Chris McKenna,Andrew Irwin)defeated EK1(Cameron Lang,Mark Faulds,Darren McConnell) 4-1 which meant EK1 missed out in a final place.

Division 3 was slightly different as both EKA and EKB had to win to have any chance of reaching the final.
EKA (Jacob Aitchison,Euan Watson,Robert Matthew) defeated 278BB 5-0 but unfortunately EKB (Jonny  Diack,Ryan Gavigan,Scott Cummings) lost to North Ayrshire 3-2.
EKA therefore progressed to the final and what an exciting final it was against North Ayrshire with great rallies and a very good standard of play from both teams. North Ayshire were however worthy 3-1 winners.

In division 4 EK (Andrew Howie,Liam McLaughlin,Andrew Nutley) had already reached the final without losing a match however in a very tense encounter EK played Knightwood and despite being 1-0, and 2-1 down they could not overcome Knightwood who won 3-2 to take the title.

Group 1
The first match was a great contest and which would eventually decide the group winner.
An exciting match with good rallies. Jonny held his nerve in the first game (-9) and Ryan in the second (-8).
The final game was won (-9) by Jonny, possibly as a result of his experiences and success in other events.
Two other matches of note were Robert v Jonny and Gary v Robert. Once again Jonny took the first match (-8) and lost the second game (-8) but held on to win the final end (-7). Gary playing in his first event mostly likely surprised Robert by winning the first match (-6) but Robert rallied well to win the next two games and match (-9), (-9).
Both sets of players performed well and provided an entertaining match.

Group 2
This group provided three excellent matches Allan v Liam, Scott v Euan, Jacob v Euan.
Allan performing at his first event made Liam work hard for this win. Liam won the first game (-13), lost the second (-8) and showed his experience to win the final game (-6).
Both Scott and Euan provided an entertaining match with both players potential group winners.
Euan lost the first game (-9) but showed good composure and won the match (-7,-11).
This set up the group decider between Jacob and Euan. Jacob lost the first game (-9) against Euan but showed his experience at this level winning the next two games (-13,-3).

Semi-finals Jonny v Euan, Jacob v Ryan
Euan had a great start to this tie winning the first end (-3), however this only inspired Jonny to lift his game and with some good play he won the match (-5,-8).
Both Ryan and Jacob played extremely well in the match providing some entertaining rallies.
Jacob lost the first end (-7), but won next two games (-6,-8). Jacob having played more matches at this level recently had the edge and gained a place in the final.

Final Jonny v Jacob
A good final but from the outset there was only going to be one winner.
Jonny who had struggled at various stages to the final took command of the match.
Jacob had performed well leading up to the final.Jonny in the end had a convincing 3-0 win (-5,-8,-8).

U18 Singles – Winner C.Lang R/U G.Mitchell
U18 Doubles – Winners – C.McKenna & Darren McConnell R/U – H.Chan & C.Lang

U18 Singles
Group 1 Graeme Mitchell,Chris McKenna,Andrew Irwin
Group 2 Hong Tai Chan,Cameron Lang,D.McConnell,Mark Faulds

Graeme was taken to four games in his first match against Andrew having lost the first game (-4) he quickly regained his form to win the following three games (-4,-4,-7).
His next match against Chris he won convincingly 3-0 (-7,-8,-6).
The final match between Chris and Andrew would decide the second semi finalist. After winning the first game Andrew had a setback losing the next game (-4) however he went on to win the match (-9,-10).
A good win for Andrew.

Group 2
The first match between Hong Tai and Cameron set the pattern for games to come in this group.
Cameron lost the first two games (-3,-3) and Hong Tai looked certain to win the match but Cameron took command in the next three games and won the match (-7,-9,-12).
Cameron continued with this good form winning his next two matches against Mark and Darren 3-1 in each case.
Darren had a good start to the event winning the first two games (-12,-10) but lost the next game to Mark (-9),however he finished the match (-6).
Darren had to battle hard to win the next match against Hong Tai. Both players were evenly matched after four games in what was an open and entertaining match. Darren showed good composure to clinch the match (-5).
Both Cameron and Darren progress to semi –final.

Semi–final Graeme v Darren Cameron v Andrew

Graeme showed his experience in this semi-final against Darren with a 3-0 win (-2,-7,-5)
Darren battled hard but Graeme was showed more believe in winning this match.
The next match was closely fought with both players winning a game.
However Cameron took control in the final games to win the match 3-1 (-8,-9).

Final Graeme V Cameron
Both players playing well on the day looked set to provide a good final.
Cameron lost the first game (-7) before he took command of the match winning the match 3-1 (-6 ,-9,-7 ).
Cameron has been working at his game for sometime and has gained experience at other events which will have helped in clinching this title.

The club would like to thank Andrew Fraser and Jim Diack for their assistance in running the event and also parents who supported the event on the day.

Four boys attended from East Kilbride an event that was well supported and organised.

U16 event:

Mark Faulds and Hong Tai Chan participated in the event. Although neither qualified both gained experience  playing at this level and continue to make progress as a result.

U14:

Cameron Lang took part in the event. This is his first season of playing table tennis at a competitive level and this provided a good opportunity to gain match practice.
Cameron only lost two matches on the day and despite failing to qualify for the national event he gained valuable experience.

U12:

Jacob Aitchison entered the event at U12 level and again similiar to Cameron he just missed out on qualifying only losing two matches on the day.He showed throughout the day a consistancy in his performance which will benefit him in future events

West Of Scotland Junior League

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

East Kilbride Table Tennis club took part in the third set of matches of the West Of Scotland Junior League on Saturday 19th January 2008 at Holyrood sports centre.

Div 1

Two very difficult matches faced the first division side against leaders Drumchapel & Holyrood A and despite their best efforts they were defeated 5-0 on both occasions.

Div 2

This division has featured two teams who have continued to improve, EK1 narrowly lost in the first match to leaders Drumchapel 3-2 and got their first win of the season with a 3-2 defeat of Holyrood.
EK2 have grown in confidence since their first win of the season and this resulted in two good performances. A 3-2 win over North Ayrshire 2 and 5-0 defeat of North Ayrshire 1.
This sets up a final match against their club mates in March.
If EK2 win they could qualify for the league play off match on the same day.

Div3

EKA and EKB have both been inconsistent this season but two good wins and a narrow defeat showed improvement.
EKB defeated South Ayrshire 3-2 in a very competitive match with some excellent rallies throughout.
EKA were narrowly defeated by Drumchapel3-2 in a match that could have gone either way.EKA however took some confidence from this result and defeated a good 44th BB team 4-1 with all players providing good performances.
Both teams could reach the league play off however this depends on the results of their final matches.

Div4

The least experienced of the EK teams have consistently played well in this division.
However today they struggled to find form and yet managed two good wins against Knightswood B and North Ayrshire 3-2.This team has won all six matches and goes forward to the play off with confidence.

Jonny and Jacob have recently attended Minor Elite training camps at Drumchapel. Chris,Cameron and Darren have been invited to attend newly formed Cadet/Junior training camps at the same venue.

East Kilbride teams continue to progress in the WOS Junior league. Six teams represent the club
across four divisions and all at age groups.

1st Div EK – Graeme Mitchell,Stephen Hamilton, Ian Martin.
The EK team has had mixed results in this top division. After a good win over Holyrood C (3-2) they lost to strong opponents in Drumchapel (1-4) and Holyrood D (2-3) however they remain mid table despite these losses.

2nd Div EK1 Mark Faulds,Cameron Lang, Darren McConnell & EK 2 Hong Tai Chan, Chris McKenna, Andrew Irwin
Two teams with very little experience at this level have started to show signs of improvement after a difficult start to this campaign both losing their first two matches. However EK2 recorded their first win (4-1) against 44BB and
lost narrowly to Drumchapel (2-3).EK1 lost narrowly to North Ayrshire (2-3) but there was evidence that they will have  a victory next time out.

3rd Div EKA Jacob Aitchison,Euan Watson,Robert Matthew.EKB Jonny Diack,Scott Cummings,Ryan Gavigan. Mixed fortunes for both teams, EKB had two good wins under their belt before meeting EKA and 44BB who both  defeated them (4-1),(4-1).
EKA also lost out in their second match (4-1) to North Ayrshire who as a result knocked them off the top of the league.
It’s difficult to predict which of these two EK teams will reach the play offs in March.

4th Div EK Andrew Howie,Andrew Nutley,Liam McLaughlin.
EK Minors have had an impressive start to this season with 4 wins out of 4 against Knightswood A and C(4-1),(4-1), 278BB and 44BB (4-1),(4-1).John Woodhouse replaced Liam McLaughlin on the day for his first experience of competitive action.
The team top the division and have deserved this with good performances

30th Anniversary Quiz Night

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

What a great night!
A fantastic turnout created a good atmosphere from the minute Big John (Quizmaster) got the quiz underway.Full marks to John who I thought got the questions spot on.
Rolando Fusi who organised the raffle found favour with the younger members when he introduced a kids raffle as well as an adult raffle. The presentation of the raffle went down a treat with both the young and old winning some great prizes.
Thanks to both for their skill and expertise.
The presentation to Steven and Robbie Szafranek came as a great surprise to them both.
Club members signed a table tennis blade and presented them with a club t-shirt and wished them well on their move to Australia.
The club would like to thank all who supported the night including Coke Cola for their donations and Boun Appetito as well everyone behind the scenes who without their support the event would not have been possible.

In group 1 the most enthralling match was Sean against Paul, two sets down 11-3,-6 Paul fought back to win the five set match 11-3,-8,-8.In group 2 Chris took command of the match winning the first two sets however Mark Faulds fought back to level the match 2:2.
Chris showed good composure to win 11-8 in the last set. In the semi finals Ross was too strong for Chris winning 3:0.
Graeme had a more difficult challenge in facing Hong Tai but held on to win 3:1 despite a good perfomance from his opponent.
The final between Ross and Graeme providing an entertaining match with many good rallies on show. Despite losing the first set Graeme fought hard to level the match but could not overcome a strong opponent. Ross winning the next two sets (-6,-7) and the event.

East Kilbride Shield 2007

East Kilbride Shield 2007

East Kilbride Table Tennis Club held their annual club event on Saturday 10th March 2007 at John Wright Sports Centre.
A well attended event by both young table tennis players and good support from many of the parents.

U18 event

All players competed well in the groups stages of this event with Graeme Mitchell,Benji Willis Stephen Hamilton and Chris McKenna making progress to the final stages.
The final group promised a variety of styles and abilities.Graeme had comfortable 3-0 victories against Stephen and Chris while Benji beat Chris 3-0 but was pushed all the way by Stephen.
The match against Stephen started with Benji losing the 1st end 11-8 and then won 2nd & 3rd ends 11-9,14-12.  Best of five sets the two players served up a tense finish with Stephen taking the 4th end 15-13 to draw level at 2-2 however Benji showed good  composure to win the final end 11-6.
A great match with both players showing good attacking play. The following match was just as difficult for Benji when he played Graeme in what would be the title decider.Benji won 1st end 11-9 before losing 2nd end 11-8 however once again he should good skills to finish strongly winning the next two sets 12-10,11-9 to win the event.Benji won this event at his first attempt, showing he has good potential for the future.

Group 1 consisting of four players Scott Cummings,Ryan Gavigan,Robert Mathew, Jacob Aitchison and Group 2 of five players Liam  McLaughlin,Robbie Szafranek,Andrew Howie, Jonathan Diack and Euan Watson took part in a very competitive event .
Two players from each group would progress in the best of three sets.Group 1 saw Jacob come out on top winning three matches and Ryan would join him in the winners group after two wins, however both Robert and Scott although disappointed had competed well.
Group 2 was dominated by Andrew who had four straight wins and Jonathan who had three. When both met in what was the group decider it was Andrew who just had the edge winning 2-0 (13-11,11-7). Liam,Robbie and Euan also disappointed at not progressing moved on to the
consolation group.
The final group was dominated by Jonathan winning all three matches. He was also able to overturn an early defeat by Andrew. The other contenders didn’t make it easy but he held on to become U12 winner.
Ryan,Jacob and Andrew contested for second place and by the narrowest of margins Andrew took the runner-up spot. All players deserve credit for their battling performances on the day.
